Mia Kym is a recent Costume Design Graduate, having studied at Birmingham City University. Heavily inspired by controversial gender roles and Japanese culture, Mia’s bespoke corsetry portrays a newfound world of drag through the combination of traditional costuming methods with Japanese Shibari. 

Using unusual fabric to create unorthodox textures and combinations, Mia is a highly skilled and experimental individual whom loves to manipulate the blurring of gender boundaries through bespoke corsetry in performance art.

Distorting and exaggerating silhouettes to craft and highlight the different body forms on various gendered bodies, her current project is displayed here for her final university project, that will be continued throughout 2020 once it is safe to do so after COVID-19.
